Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading… RelatedSetelah Qantas, Emirates Berpotensi Batalkan Pesanan Airbus A38011/02/2019In “Featured”Sambut Pesanan Airbus A380 Ke-100, Emirates Pasang Livery Presiden Pertama Uni Emirat Arab08/11/2017In “Bandara”Mendarat di Cengkareng Saat Dirgahayu RI, Mengapa Airbus A380 Tidak Beroperasi di Indonesia?13/08/2019In “Bandara”last_img read more

Back on winning trail – Tallawahs move to third with win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

first_imgA fine momentum-building innings from New Zealander Glenn Phillips and some resolute bowling helped the Jamaica Tallawahs to bounce back to winning ways, as they defeated the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in their Caribbean Premier League encounter at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago yesterday. After posting a workmanlike score of 147 for six, the Tallawahs stifled the Patriots batting and dismissed the St Kitts and Nevis franchise for 110 all out in 19.4 overs, to win by 37 runs.It was the third win in six outings for the Tallawahs, who leapfrogged the Barbados Tridents into the third position with six points. The Tridents lost to leaders Trinbago Knight Riders yesterday. In a contest that pitted the bottom two teams, it was the Tallawahs, minus the injured Andre Russell, who won the toss and decided to take the first strike, as they looked to turn around their fortunes having lost two games on the trot. That decision looked streaky at the outset, as the new opening pair of Phillips and Nkrumah Bonner found runs hard to come by in the power play overs.Bonner fell to Imran Khan just before the power play ended for 16, as the Tallawahs painstakingly went about accumulating runs.At 117 for four in the 18th over, things weren’t looking great for the Jamaican franchise, but an inspired Phillips turned on the afterburners, as he moved from 37 off his first 45 balls to 42 off his next 16, to spruce up the Tallawahs innings. The right-handed wicketkeeper batted right through the innings for the first time, to be unbeaten on 79 from 61 balls as the Tallawahs inched their way to 147. Jermaine Blackwood chipped in with 27 as Patriots captain Rayad Emrit took three wickets for 32 runs. WORST POSSIBLE START With the injured Evin Lewis batting down the order, the Patriots got off to the worst possible start to their run chase, as Fidel Edwards bowled Chris Lynn for eight in the first over.Opener Kieron Powell and Denesh Ramdin tried to consolidate, but all this time the run rate was creeping up, as the batsmen found runs hard to come by, thanks to some disciplined bowling. The fall of Ramdin’s wicket for 13 at 42 for two in the eighth over, saw the Patriots lose three wickets for three runs, as the St Kitts batting woes continued from there on in.Powell and Lewis, with 21 apiece, could not help the cause, as the Tallawahs bowlers knocked the stuffing out of the Patriots batting as they limped to 110 all out in 19.4 overs.Carlos Brathwaite came good with the ball, bagging three for 11, while there were two wickets each for Fidel Edwards, Veerasammy Permaul and Sandeep Lamichhane.last_img read more

But one of the top shooting guards in the Class of 2016 wanted more.He said he’d wait to see if bluebloods Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina came calling. In the last week, both the Wildcats and Tar Heels did. So what’s that mean for the 6-foot-4, five-star shooting guard from the powerhouse DeMatha Catholic program in Maryland?“He can go to Kentucky now,” said Jerry Meyer, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports. “I think that’s what he’s been waiting for is that Kentucky offer. That’s my feeling on it. It’s not like he’s told me that, but after 11 years of doing this and reading between the lines …”Fultz wouldn’t go that far Thursday night after his AAU game here in the Under Armour Finals, but he’s obviously excited about the Cats’ increasing interest.UK targets Tatum, Giles a package deal?“That was a real big offer for me,” he said. “That was just an appreciation. I like Kentucky. I think I can play there and help them win a national championship, so it was just a blessing to get that offer. (UK is) just saying that I could be a great fit at the school and I could be one of the main players.“I feel like I’m pretty much a big priority. Coach Cal talks to me a lot.”That’s potentially bad news for the Cardinals’ Rick Pitino and head coaches from LSU, Maryland, Memphis, N.C. State, Virginia Tech and Washington who offered Fultz much earlier and were in the stands to see him play Thursday. UK assistant John Robic was also there and Cats head coach John Calipari watched Fultz the night before.Kentucky “probably just needed to see him,” Meyer said. “It’s like everything in life: doesn’t just happen at once. Enough schools offer and enough scouts talk about him and then Kentucky gets an opportunity to watch him. Evidently they liked what they saw.”Everyone does these days. Already ranked as high as 13th overall in the class (by 247Sports) and no lower than 23rd (Rivals), Fultz is rising fast after a strong summer. His is a remarkable story, having been on DeMatha’s junior varsity team less than two years ago and now a five-star recruit.Five-star Fultz has UL offer, wants UK“His progression and improvement is happening so rapidly, it’s like every time you see him, he’s better,” Meyer said. “I think physically he’s still developing. He’s got long arms, huge hands, size-15 feet. So I would expect him to get around 6-6. It’s a cool story, intriguing story, because it’s happened so quickly. But he’s a late bloomer who works hard.“You don’t see it that much, though. The JV story we always hear is Michael Jordan, right?”Always an adept mid-range scorer, Fultz has improved his ball handling and passing – he drove and spun and dished to wide-open teammates repeatedly Thursday – and is increasingly explosive. He can finish through contact and play above the rim. He’s a solid defender.“All the work I’m putting in is starting to show and every day I’m adding something new to my arsenal,” Fultz said. The UK and UNC offers “show me that if I keep working hard, I can go wherever I want, as long as I believe in God.”One of his options is Louisville, who had both Pitino and assistant Ralph Willard in the stands Thursday night. The Cardinals have been in hot pursuit for months, but is there still hope for U of L?From JV to must-see, Markelle Fultz gaining big-time college attention“Yes,” Fultz said. “I think that’s another great fit for me, being a guard there. I could help them score and help them win a national championship as well. I’m just looking forward to going where it best fits me, and they’re talking to me a lot about recruitment, so that’s good.”Soon after this weekend’s event, he plans to cut his list of schools to 10, with a goal of picking a program by August or September. His only scheduled official visit right now is to Arizona in August, but Kentucky and Louisville will no doubt push to get him on campus, too, before the decision.Just how fast is Fultz’s stock rising? Meyer said he might be a top-five player in the class – and went so far as to compare him favorably to Malik Monk, one of the most electric rising seniors in America and a top Kentucky target.“Let’s name the guards who are better. Is Malik Monk better than him? I’m not so sure he is,” Meyer said. “What does Malik do, other than highlight dunks, that he doesn’t? He’s a better passer. I like his ball handling better. Probably equal defenders. Shooting would probably be a wash. So Malik’s better for mixtape (but) I think Fultz is going to be that good.”Kyle Tucker can be reached at (502) 582-4361. They did not have a winning season and kept Jeff Fisher as a head coach despite the wide held opinion nationally that he was terrible. He was asked about relocation in his initial interview with the Rams (he moved with the Oilers) and was fired half-way through the Rams first season in LA. I take issue with all of the talk by Kroenke and the NFL that they wanted to stay in St. Louis when their actions told a very different story. I bet that’s something an owner will try to do someday  Quote 7 hours ago, hormone said: 4 Share on other sites Link to post That’s what the pro St. Louis crowd doesn’t get. Kroenke is building a new stadium in LA on his own dime. That’s a far better precedent to set than a state like Missouri giving a billionaire money he doesn’t need and that they can’t afford to give.  Gothamite As much as I would LOVE to see Kroenke pay, I don’t think there’s much merit to this except for maybe the people who bought merch between the end of the last season and the relocation. It’s a business. They fulfilled their end of the deal and then they went to the city where they wanted to be/gave them the best terms for a new deal. End of story. Companies do this all the time.  Sports Logo News This is on top of the fact that once Stan Kroenke became majority owner in 2010, the team went into rapid decline. The PSL owners are going to get millions back and I say let merchandise buyers too. You can’t question the support the city and fans gave that team.  Reply to this topic… This is on top of the fact that once Stan Kroenke became majority owner in 2010, the team went into rapid decline. It all seemed a bit pointless in the end though, and I’m still trying to dodge that shady attorney for his fees. I still have my suspicions his law license wasn’t valid considering it was written in crayon and was on the back of an old CVS receipt.
