Susak celebrates the 31st Day of Emigrants
The famous sandy island of Susak will celebrate its 31st traditional Emigrant Day this year on July 31st!This unique island of Lošinj, both in terms of its origin and appearance, has traditionally marked the Day of Emigrants in honor and memory of all emigrated islanders since 1985, traditionally on the last day of July. It is on this day that Susak welcomes numerous visitors and its long-time emigrants, and is happy to present the special features of its cultural and historical heritage to all those interested.The program for marking the Day of Emigrants begins early in the morning with a solemn Holy Mass which will be held in the church of St. Nikola located in Gornji selo. For the youngest locals and visitors, a Mini Olympics was organized on the plateau in front of the Elementary School and Spjaža Beach. The real festivity will begin at 20 pm with a concert by the Josip Kašman Wind Orchestra from Mali Lošinj and will continue with the notes of the band ‘PUMPA’ on the plateau in front of the Elementary School.Susak had the most inhabitants after the end of II. World War II, however, in the sixties of the last century there was a large emigration to America, where today live more than 2500 Suscans, mostly in the state of New Jersey. Today, Susak has approximately 130 permanent residents.For all interested residents and guests of the island of Lošinj, on this occasion, a free transport was organized by boat Devin, which departs from the port of Malološinj at 18 pm in the direction of Susak. Return from the island of Susak will be at midnight.
