Meadowbrook park public planning session set for this afternoon. A open house meeting hosted by Johnson County Park and Recreation District on potential uses for the new public part set to go in on park of the former Meadowbrook Country Club property will run this afternoon and evening from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the old Meadowbrook clubhouse at 9101 Nall Ave. “This open house will be very interactive, and will take place both indoors and out,” JCPRD Community Relations Manager Randy Knight said in a release. “There will even be planning activities for kids to help get families excited about the wonderful potential of this new regional park.” [All ages invited to help plan the future Meadowbrook Park in Prairie Village on Sept. 29 — City of Prairie Village]Mission police arrest 19 at checkpoint. Mission police, working with officers from other areas, arrested 19 people at a sobriety checkpoint in Mission Friday night and early Saturday morning. Police arrested 18 people for driving under the influence and one person was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Officers checked 306 cars and tested 59 drivers during the checkpoint. Officers from Mission, Gardner, Olathe, Overland Park, Westwood, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol assisted in the operation.Surging SM East volleyball takes on top-ranked Olathe Northwest. The SM East courts will be the center of attention in the Kansas high school volleyball world tonight as the Lancers take on SM South and Olathe Northwest in a triangular. SM East, 12-1 on the season, jumped to second place in the Kansas Volleyball Association’s rankings last week, just one spot below top-ranked Olathe Northwest.
