first_imgAspiring artists and musicians from Nova Scotia and beyond will have an opportunity to learn new skills at Sherbrooke Village’s summer camps. The camps are expanding this season to include a four-day watercolour painting workshop, as well as two returning music camps. The third annual Road to Stanfest Songwriting Camp, produced in partnership with the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, will be held June 29 to July 2. It will feature four of Nova Scotia’s best-loved songwriters. Sherbrooke native Clary Croft and Sons of Maxwell’s Dave Carroll are returning for a third year and Dave Gunning and Susan Crowe will round out the instructors. All students attending the camp will have the opportunity to attend Stanfest, and some will participate on stage in a special workshop. Sherbrooke Village Fiddle Camp, from July 6 to 9, will feature returning instructors Kimberley and Skip Holmes, and Ivan and Vivian Hicks along with North American Grand Masters Champion Shane Cook. The camp will instruct students in all levels of fiddle, guitar and piano. The camp will culminate with a grand finale concert July 9, which will feature the students and instructors. Susan Paterson will instruct the watercolour painting workshop from Aug. 10 to 13. Her work has appeared in galleries across Canada for more than 30 years and is included in collections in the United States, England and Japan. She is also a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour.
